Choosing the Best NAS for HDMI 2.0 – Asustor vs QNAP?
Hi, I have watching many of your youtube videos and feel like a have learned alot about nas’s and the possibilites I can use them for, so thank you for that. I currently want to buy my first “grown up” nas, and I’m a bit torn between a few options. My nas level knowledge is pretty good I have work professionally with Qnap and Synology nas for backup and survelliance, and used WD and Netgear at home for 1 or 2 disk solutions. The type of nas I’m looking for is a multimedia nas where i can access my data either directly to the tv with a hdmi 2.0 port(important it is 2.0 since I have alot 4k HDR10 60hz movies), or Nvidia Shield tv. I been looking mostly at either qnap or Asustor, specifically I looked at the as6404t which has both Hdmi 2.0 and S/DIF(optical sound out) which i like, and then the more expensive hs-453DX-8g. I think i’m pretty sure I want the Asustor, but didn’t seem to be able to find a review on it from you guys. Also I don’t have MAC, so is there any thing for me to use the thunderbolt for?500-1000 pounds

Asustor Vs QNAP – Hardware Vs Software
The Asustor AS6404T certainly ticks the boxes on the hardware front, but the software is unfortunately still behind that of the likes of QNAP and Synology. The latest version of the operating system ADM 3 is now in beta and seems to be much, much better. However it is still a beta and you cannot upgrade from the beta to a full version when it is released (so you would need to offload your data to another storage device whilst reformatting the system – not ideal).
For what you need, the Asustor will definitely do it, you will just have a bit more work at setup at the start compared with the HS-453DX, TVS-472XT or TBS-453DX from QNAP. Alternatively, you can wait until Asustor’s OS update is fully released for a better-formed comparison. I recommend the following:
I hope this helps you with your 4K Media enjoyment!
