TS-1685 compatible SSD and RAM
i have some questions on the QNAP TS-1685-D1531
1. what size M.2 and SSD’s should i put in it? I’m putting 12 Seagate IronWolf 16tb drives in it but I have no clue what to put for the 6 M.2 drives and the 4 other SSD’s? 4tb each? or is that wasted?
2. what brand of ram is in the QNAP TS-1685-D1531? Looks like the only one available on Amazon that is 550w only has 64gb ram… so i was gonna order 2 sticks of 32gb to max it out.
The size of M.2 depends on your project size. If you work on postproduction then have a look at the temp folder size or general project folder size. If it is 2TB the cache should be the same or bigger. If there are several projects, then add all those capacities together. Same with simple data storage situation. Routers will usually give statistics of the data size being transferred on a daily bases. This will be the size of the cache. I would keep it around 1-2TB. The recommended brand is Samsung Evo M.2 as well as 2.5inch.
The RAM brand Qnap usually uses is Transcend memory. But it will support also Crucial memory, just make sure the frequency is the same.
