  1. Versions shipping in 2020+ are compatible with macOS. Older SSD modules may require a firmware update , which must be installed under Windows.

  2. These modules are longer than 80mm, and Sonnet accomodates only 80mm SSD M.2 devices.

  3. For PCIe cards, version without heat sink (or must remove heat sink). For Dual NVMe Dock, version with heat sink recommended

  4. 80mm version only.

  5. Sonnet M.2 2×4 and 4×4 are Gen 3 cards. PCIe 3.0 R/W performance max is 3500MB/s.

  6. Not compatible with macOS.

  7. The version with heat sink version does not fit NVMe Dock (SSDs limited to 11mm tall and 24mm wide).

  8. When used via Thunderbolt, write speed limited to ~1200MB/s.

  9. Power loss protection capacitors do not fit under heat sink

  10. Write Speeds are much slower than rated speed when used with M1 Macs.

  11. For full speed, the 6/10/2022 firmware update – which must be installed under Windows – is required:

  12. Sonnet NVMe Storage Dock connects each SSDs at x2 PCIe Gen 3, so Read/Write speed limited to ~1400MB/s each. Speed of ~2800MB/s can be achieved with a software RAID 0 of two SSDs.

    Heat sink recommended, but not required.

  13. These SSDs come with a pre-installed heat sink or heat spreader. They are recommended to use on the Echo NVME Thunderbolt Dock. They do not fit Sonnet M.2 PCIe cards, which has a very efficient card heat sink intended for SSDs without a pre-installed heat sink.

  14. SSDs (single and/or double sided) are too tall to fit in our PCIe cards.

  15. Per manufacturer, these SSDs do not work in external enclosures.

Double-sided SSDs: M.2 8×4, M.2 4×4 (current version) M.2 8×4 and Dual NVMe Thunderbolt Dock are compatible with double-sided SSDs.

M.2 4×4 Silent Edition with Serial Numbers A01298060001200 to A01298060001698 inclusive, and A01298070001890 and above are compatible.

M.2 4×4 Silent Edition with other serial numbers, and all M.2 4×4 Blower Edition require a thermal pad modification

Sonnet has tested many, but not, all of the above SSDs. We rely on the manufacturers’ data, and cannot guarantee compatiblity or rated performance (listed performance is typically for largest capacity SSD).
