NAS for Plex server, transcoding on the fly

Replacing old ReadyNAS Pro 6. Also have Synology DS1515+.and another ReadyNAS Pro 6 for backup of original ReadyNAS Pro 6. Focus now is on more TBs & multimedia, Plex server, transcoding on the fly. Was looking at Synology DS918+ but then saw your QNAP TVS682 videos. I am on home Apple ecosystem but techie enough to handle QNAP. Like hardware of Qnap and it’s hardware upgradability. A con is Qnap 682 is 2 yrs old. Help me decide based on my requirements or suggest NAS I may have missed.

There will be soon new 72XT series released with Pentium, i3 and i5 processors. There is still nothing better released for Plex transcoding than x82 series with i7 processor. If max resolution you are looking to transcode is 1080p then DS918+ will do a good job. But for 4K Plex transcoding you will need minimum i5 or better – i7 CPU.
