NAS on CGNAT

Hey, just thought i give it a try and ask you if you have any experience with a Synology NAS behind CGNAT. Situation is, i moved into a new Apartment and are now on CGNAT, i have IPV6 support but are not able to get a fixed ipv4 address. Therefore i run into issues when setting up DDNS or accessing Plex from outside the network. Quick Connect works though. Looking into the internet i will find a lot of comments but not really a simple explanation for people who don’t have super network skills. VPN into the system will also not be an option for all the users in the Family.

You have an ideas or tips on how to reach the System from outside that is easy to unterstand for also not techy users.

 

We do not have much experience with CGNAT, but it seems like it is different from the usual ISP services where you get ipv4 IP address. It also struggles with peer-to-peer connections – only central connections are allowed such as Microsoft or Synology server. This is why you can connect via QuickConect VPN proxy service.

I would recommend using DS Video app instead of the Plex. You can then continue using Quickconnect user name instead of an IP address /port forwarding. This is also a more secure way to connect.
