QNAP TBS 453dx memory 16GB upgrade

QNAP TBS 453dx memory upgrade

Can you suggest how to choose memory for the QNAP TBS 453dx? I’d like to go from 8G to 16G with two identical sticks. I bought G.Skill Ripjaws DDR4-2400 SO-DIMM CL16, but that failed.

Yes, you will need 2400 SO-DIMM DDR4. The best is to choose Crucial memory sticks. Those might be slightly more expensive, but they also more likely will work.

The original RAM as follows. 16GB options bellow.

I hope this helps.

2GB DDR4-2400 (453DX) SO-DIMM RAM
4GB DDR4-2400 (453DX) SO-DIMM RAM

RAM-2GDR4A0-SO-2400 DDR type: DDR4(260PIN)

RAM-4GDR4A0-SO-2400 DDR type: DDR4(260PIN)

Capacity: 4GB

Spec: HYNIX 512M X 16

Manufacturer: ADATA

Frequency: DDR4-2400

Form(PIN): 260PIN

Manufacturer P/N: AD4S2400J4G17-BHYA

Power Supply: 1.2V

I can confirm that the Crucial RAM works in my QNAP TBS 453dx. I installed two 8G sticks, Crucial CT2K8G4SFS824A. Now I can use a virtual Windows machine on Virtualization Station. It was virtually unusable with 8Gs of memory and other, normal, processes running. I may even be able to use QTS Hero when it’s available. I think I owe you a coffee.

QNAP TBS / HS 453dx Memory 16GB Upgrade

Message Body:

I would like to upgrade RAM.
There is already a closed subject on it.
Crucial 2x8Gb is recommended.
But crucial is single channel RAM.
However both 453dx (and all PC with Celeron J4105) accept dual rank memory, up to 2400mhz.

This one seems good:
HyperX Impact DDR4 8GB, 2400MHz CL14 SODIMM XMP – HX424S14IB2 / 8

Low latency
Low voltage
Maximum frequency accepted by J4105
And dual channel.

How can I be sure it will work on my new NAS?

Thank you very much

I am reading that people choosing HyperX RAM have got upgrade working just fine. We recommend Crucial because performance tests show no noticeable speed improvement. Even though RAM is faster overall performance have other bottlenecks which can slow things down.

Memory Upgrade on TBS 453dx

Message Body:
Hi, I believe my experience could be useful for others. I bought a CRUCIAL 16GB X 2 and try to run the system. I also disconnect the cmos battery to check if my mother read it, but no luck. I believe the issue of overraming more than 16gb its the chipset of the mother. The CPU accepted 32gb with other mothers.
I will check the 8gb x 2. It is Crucial the best? The 4G system came with ADATA brand.

Thank you for your feedback! But you can upgrade HS-453DX to 32GB. SPAN have done it using Crucial RAM 2X 16GB.

Have you tried these RAM?

Alternative: Crucial CT16G4SFD824A 16 GB (DDR4, 2400 MT/s, PC4-19200, Dual Rank x8, SODIMM, 260-Pin) Memory
