Synology DS CAM not working with H.265 cameras

I tried to access my Synology camera on my phone and i can only see live view. When trying to check what happened 2 minutes ago I ger Error message “Unable to Play H.265 stream, check the format”. Whats the point of surveillance if i dont see who tried to break into my house! People have lives, they dont spend all they at home checking so advertised Synology Monitor Center for desktop. Ridiculous!

Yes, this is quite embarrassing subject for Synology. They refused to pay for H.265 licence and have no permission to use it. So much for “Apple-like company” 🙂
H.265 is much more efficient camera for comprising the video files. It is also the latest standard. I am afraid you will need to use Qnap or other brands for new-generation cameras.
Synology only works with ancient H.264 relics. Sorry.

If you need an access to the footage, you need to get a computer. I know, funny in a sad way.

Open File station and go to camera folder

Oh wait, it gets even better. Synology do not support transcoding anymore with “new-generation” models. This means you can not watch the video using Synology DS Video/ Video Station if it is a 4K camera (every new camera is).

You have to download it to somewhere and then use a computer video player to watch it! Good luck! You will need it.
