Synology DS920+ vs QNAP TS-453D?

Synology DS920+ vs QNAP TS-453D?

Trying to make my mind up on which to buy and would appreciate your opinion. I’m backing up 2 machines, pc and mac plus phones and tablets, all apple. I’d like to setup CCTV, a media server and possibly run windows in a VM as its also time to replace my old PC. We run MS Office, email and the browser. Not super users by any stretch of the imagination but, enough. I’ve a WIFI 6 mesh network and 1gb internet. I now mostly work from home but was always office based pre-covid so, who knows in the future.

I’m thinking 32tb 4 bay but, not sure on the best way to go.

Both of these NAS would do the job. Just make sure that you are happy to run Windows on a Dual Core Celeron. This is what you would likely allocate for the VM from exiting NAS resources. The rest will be used for surveillance, RAID and backups.
Xeon based model would be faster, but if your Windows VM is not as important, then you can stick with Celeron.
Bith 920+ and 453D would perform very similar. Synology NVMe cache would give a boost though.

I hope this helps.
