Zyxel NAS alternative

I purchased a Zyxel NAS a few years back and it has never worked the way it should have, buggy and hard to set up.
so after trying to get it to work for 2 years I give up and am looking for a new NAS.

I run Mac desktop and laptop, apple tv and roko, iPhones ipads I touch, after looking for a few weeks I can’t sort out what I should get and my searching has lead me here.

I mainly need for pictures, vids, music, pdf and docs, and to backup for the time machine, as well as plex and being able to access from iPhones and iPad.

The budget NAS rarely will offer you reliable service nor the best user experience. But sometimes in the home environment, it might not be as important. It still does the job most of the time as a file server. But when you have no time or patience to fix and reconfigure things on regular bases you need to look at the leader in the NAS market. Synology has been a top choice in home NAS market. It is simple to use and is very reliable. It even offers military-grade protection and reliability mechanisms if you decide to take the whole thing to the next level. The entry-level Synology alternative would be DS218j or DS418j capable of simple things including the requirements above. But DS218+ is a choice offering you more than this- including smother user experience and even remote video access. This is when you realize that the possibilities are endless with a NAS. This is why the NAS community is growing rapidly every day.
