Adding a 4th drive to WD 4-bay NAS Raid 5

Can you please help me in deciding how can I build a raid 5 on my WD pr4100 4 bay nas.my question is if i want to build a raid 5 the minimum hard drives I can use is 3 if i initially put 3 drives and then later on add the 4th drive will this work or not
Or should I just put 4 drives straight away
I will use wd red pro 18 tb drives.

Here’s what to do, to get the drive added to the array: (without losing any data)

  • Login to admin panel. Open Storage Tab at the top
  • Open ‘Raid Volume’ section
  • click on ‘Change RAID Mode’
  • click check box  ‘Expand RAID Volume’.
  • Click Next
  • The process will start by doing a quick disk health status check.
  • Click Next. Drive is operating successfully and is now part of the array.
