Cheapest NAS with snapshots

I have a QNAP TS-128A 1 Bay NAS and looking for some advice on best storage/volume setting and how to setup for snapshot (if it is possible with 1 Bay NAS).
Do i need to use external USB HD via the USB port ?

Snapshots will reserve storage space on your existing internal drives. Qnap, unlike Synology, has enabled Snapshot technology even on very basic NAS models. This includes TS-128A. This allows you to restore files from historical versions. This is very useful in case of accidental file deletion or edits.
