Final Cut/Adobe premier Video editing alternative to XSAN or Accusys

We’re looking to upgrade an older 20TB Fiber channel XSAN environment:
– Promise Vtrack
– 2 Qlogic SANbox 5200 Fiber Channel switches
– 2 MDC servers (Mac minis with Promise SanLink2 to Fiber SPF)
– 4 iMac Clients with Promise SanLink2 to Fiber SPF)
– macOS 10.11 running on MDCs and clients
– Most content is video and Final Cut/Adobe premier projects (+ internal shared documents)

Future proofing:
– We would like to increase storage capacity to at least 60TB with the option to expand later to 120TB
– We think of replacing Editing machines with iMac Pros
– We would like it to allow more clients to connect if the company grows (slowly)

10Gbe seems to be the way to go but we’re open to thunderbolt solutions (or hybrids) like Accusys solutions but haven’t heard anyone with experience with it.

Yes, proper 10GbE RAID storage will offer you number of protection mechanisms. Not only you are protected against drive failures, but also your work will be uninterrupted if one of the power supplies blow. There are also high availability solutions which means you wont even notice if your entire NAS is gone- backup unit will take over in a millisecond. And this is just a tip o the iceberg of what NAS can offer. Similarly like with Accusys you can link aggregate couple of 10GbE ports (or 25Gbe) in order to double the speeds if ever required. But speed is always limited to the slowest link in the chain. This is how Qnap stand out with their tiered storage functionality. You can have three layers of data- hot (on NVMe drives), warm data (on SSD) and cold data on HDD. In the background data will be moved around accordingly to the frequency of its use – all automatic offering you the best performance possible. The top choice currently for video editors is Qnap Thunderbolt NAS models TVS-1282T3 as a desktop option and TVS-1582TU as a rackmount. This allows few direct Thunderbolt connections and also 10GbE connections for people connecting from other offices. Now your data access is not any more limited to few computers, you can share sample projects/finished projects from very same storage device. This is what video editors are getting in order to have expandable solution in the growing business. You can start with half filled box and add more drives or expansion units as you need.
