Agreed… but actually its not a restriction of ZFS is an implementation restriction. Migrating to a different geometry is hard because if the structure of ZFS. I suspect this is a tradeoff with OpenZFS given the history .. SUN… Oracle…illumos. It would be interesting to submit this question directly to the folks but at the end of the day, I do not believe the current implementation of OpenZFS will change because their are better solutions for high disk-count object stores (Variable fragment assignment systems – Erasure Coding)Back to my issue.
