I seek to set up a mutual off-site sync arrangement between my home and my son’s home in another city. We both use Apple gear mostly, but looking at QNAP/Drobo level equipment. We have no NAS now. Primary data to sync would be Apple TimeMachine backups (which are internally peculiar and may make incremental transfer difficult).
You can have something very simple like DS418 at both locations. You can fill it up with 2 or 3 drives and add more later. If you prefer Qnap, I would say TS-453Be would be a good choice. You will be able to do local time machine backups and also run an offsite backup to another NAS.
To enable Shared Folder Sync:
You have to enable the service on the destination Synology NAS first.
- Go to Control Panel > File Service > rsync
- Select Enable rsync service to enable the Shared Folder Sync service.
- Click Apply.
