NAS for business- Qnap & Synology alternative to Terramaster

My organization is looking at upgrading the storage of our media and documents setup, from the current multiple external HDD setup to a single NAS Device. I read your reviews about the Terramaster, and i have looked into other Qnap devices too.

My questions is, Is the Terramaster a good solution? what are the disadvantages about the F4-220?
Should i just put in the extra money and buy the Qnap alternatives? Which Qnap device would you suggest? looking at 4 bay options.

This is a very budget option and has its advantages. Just because Terramaster cannot compete with investments like Qnap or Synology, they have to compete with the price. Sometimes it is actually a very good value for money solution. If you need a simple network drive with a RAID protection this might be the way to go. There are also some apps available like a database or web server. And this might be all you need.

But if you nee a little bit more reliable solution you may want to choose Qnap or Synology. The CPU benchmark for this model is 1024 which is not bad for a low-end NAS. It actually will work pretty fast.

The alternative would be DS218+ or DS418play from Synology which can be expanded with extra 5 drives on a second volume. With Synology, you can mix different size drives or start with a 1 or 2 drives and add more later if needed. There is also a similar function like Dropbox built in- called Version control. If you have any mistakenly changed files you can reverse the changes and get your old files back. You can also encrypt certain folder to keep data safe and much much more.

The Qnap alternative would be TS-251B or TS-451Be. Qnap will do pretty much the same things what Synology but it will be much more configurable. You can add extra cards, connect them directly. The configurations will have more advanced options available for professionals. People who are a bit scared of configuration tend to choose Synology.

If you are interested in problems Terramaster users may experience- here are some Google searches. This might never happen to you but I thought you might be interested to see people thoughts. Offcourse things happen also with NAS leader brands, but then the brand support center is a dealbreaker.
