Qnap TS-251+ or Synology DS218+

I am trying to decide between the QNAP TS-251+ and Synology DS218+. I plan to have whichever one I choose for years to come and intend on using them as storage in an ESXi environment.

Which do you recommend in terms of performance?

When we talk about Virtual machines, I have to say Qnap is a step ahead of Synology. Qnap NAS have a better choice of hardware which is really important when building a virtual machine server. When comparing DS218+ and TS-251+ – Qnap will perform more than 50% faster then Synology- based on CPU benchmark. You can set up storage target in ESXi environment using both NAS but I will recommend nap this time.

DS218+ Specs

CPU Mark 1313

TS-251+ specs

Intel Celeron J1900 2.0GHz Quad Core (up to 2.42GHz) CPU Mark 1883
