Best NAS for surveillance

Choosing a NAS for Hikvision IP Cameras

Hi, i would like to know if you can help me chose the best NAS for our home. We have 7    8M    IP Hikvision cameras connected to a managed switch, connected to our router.

We would like to be able to save footage for about a month, see the cameras from a TV at my office, backup crucial data…
I also would like to know if we can protect this NAS from fire or theft…

50TB Storage, £1000 Budget

I would recommend a QNAP NAS for a surveillance NAS and most likely a TVS-682 NAS. I recommend this as it arrives with 8 IP Camera Licences for the Surveillance station software. All NAS providers give away between 2 and 4 free licences with their NAS (the software is included free with your NAS, but more than 4 cameras is considered business/enterprise and therefore users exceeding this number are normally expected to pay). However if you go for the TVS-682, it includes 8 Camera Licences for you and your Hikvision cameras which will save you £30-40 per camera! For more information on camera licences, heck this article:

What are Synology and QNAP Camera Licences and why should I buy them?

You can find the QNAP TVS-682 here at SPAN –

Alternatively, you can buy below for your local Amazon outlet (use the link to go there, as this provides this free advice service with ad revenue, thank you).

Finally, with regard to fire/water safety, I would recommend buying a ioSafe USB 3.0 external drive, then set up a daily/hourly/live backup onto the drive via the QNAP backup software. You can do this once and then it will do it automatically for you.

You can get an iosafe 4TB here (bigger units are available)-  product/ioSafe-Solo-G3-SK4TB-Fireproof-amp-Waterproof-USB-3-0-External-Drive-+-1-Year-Data-Recovery-Service-DRS-4TB~59123

Alternatively (once again) you can buy below for your local Amazon outlet (use the link to go there, as this provides this free advice service with ad revenue, thank you)

Thank you for your question
