Compatible 2.5GbE USB adpater for Qnap NAS

2.5g usb for qnap nas

hi do you know any 2.5GbE usb brand that can work with qnap nas?

Qnap have made their own 5GbE USB adapter QNA-UC5G1T. It is backwards compatible and will also support 1GbE and 2.5GbE network switches, cables and computer PCIe cards.

QNA-UC5G1T  in   UK  and USA

But if you prefer something cheaper and matching 2.5GbE speeds then look for the RTL8156 chip-based products.

Aquantia AQC11U based USB3-5Gbps (QNAP QNA-UC5G1T): https://github.com/bb-qq/aqc111

Supported RTL8156(2.5Gbps) based devices

Currently, I only confirmed products marked “confirmed working”. If you got other products and they do not work, please create an issue with its vendor id.

  1. Has anyone got instructions on how to load and enable RTL8156 in a QNAP NAS running QTS 4.3. So far everything I have found references the Synology NAS devices and I can’t find anything for QNAP.

  2. Anybody with issues that it remains at 1000 mbit? Can’t get it work with 5 BGE .. it stays at 1 Gbe ????????‍♂ DS 920+ – Front USB – tried also with additional y-cable for more power supply…nothing :-/

  3. The QNAP QNA-UC5G1T does it work on the Qnap TS 253A, it is not on the compatibility list But I read on a German forum and this guy says it does work, I don’t want to waste £100

  4. I tried to install that same file since my DS220+ Is Feminilake. It failed and I ran the command that the tutorial says and it says No such file or directory. Anyone else had this issue? Has it been resoloved?

  5. Hey, thanks for this video! Do you know if I could make this ethernet my primary LAN port for the internet? When I plug this into my modem’s 10gbps ethernet port, it assigns an IP address to LAN3 on the Synology that is different from the rest of the network and it still appears to be pulling internet from LAN1. My Synology hosts family photos and videos so I would like to try to maximize download/upload speeds to the internet from the sinology to the internet. Not so concerned with the rest of the network. I recognize it’s unstable, so I was hoping to keep LAN1 connected to the modem as well and using that to access the Synology to reset the driver if/when it ever goes down, but using LAN3 as the primary connection.

  6. I was considering leaving my aggregated links from synology nas to 1Gb switch and adding a usb 3.0 nic that would be connected to one workstation. Will the synology automatically virtually switch so that the workstation can pass traffic beyond the nas? I believe qnap nas has a virtual switch setting for this, but not synology nas?

  7. These are Synology drivers, not QNAP drivers.
I also tried generic RTL8156B and it is not recognized on QTS 4.5.4.
I see that the mainline kernel driver is merged from kernel 5.13 and QTS 5 is “only” 5.10. Also, official Realtek non-tree driver works only for kernels up to 5.6 (on Unraid forums, they mention it works also on 5.8) so we might be out of luck until next big QTS update

  8. Where did you find drivers for the RL8156 for Qnap? You only link to drivers for Synology. Added a Sabrent 2.5GbE USB Adapter NT-S25G but the Qnap doesn’t recognize it.
