NAS for a Backup and Video Server

Choosing the Right NAS for Media and Backups

Looking at Synology to set up a home NAS for 2 reasons. 1) use to backup four Windows
computers (typically never more than two computers in use at one time) in real time.
Also have this set up as RAID 1 and be able to copy it off for an additional off-site storage.
2) use as a movie/TV show server (normally only one user at a time). I have multiple movies
in ISO format as well as some TV series currently on hard drives (around 4-5 TB). Would like
to have a way to server those to a TV, but am a little fuzzy on what is needed to do this and
which NAS to start with that will not lock me in too much down the road.

Thank you for your email. I would certainly recommend a QNAP NAS for your needs. This is largely because:

1) The QNAP QSync Application for Windows, Mac, Android and mobile equivalents is both free and VERY
versatile (live SYnc, multiple folder/file level back up options, day-to-day backups in
different directories and more.

2) You have a much more diverse level of media file support as well as HDMI as an option. So you can
use a direct connection to your TV or network access over DLNA.

3) As some of your media files are ISO, you will need to use a few more 3rd party
applications (PLEX, Emby, KODI and more) in the NAS app
center to play them. QNAP and Asustor have the best support for this.

I would recommend the following NAS for your needs:
