4K UHD. Hi. I’m thinking about buying a NAS to store my movies. I have approx 400 DVDs and 200 blu-rays. Also 40 4K UHDs. I’m trying to decide between the 418play and the 918+. Of course, I don’t want to over spend, nor do I want to under spend. I’m just trying to get rid of some of the clutter in my LVRM. My wife is sort of suspicious of my motives since I’m always buying some sort of tech. I would appreciate your advice. I only need 2 streams. TV in LVRM and TV in MBDRM.
Simple 4K storage and local streaming do not require much hardware power. DS418play will cope perfectly fine with multiple streams at the time. Just make sure you connect everything over ethernet cable. DS418play not only stream but also ensure that the streaming device receives a format it can play – just in case any video is not supported. If you think you will need to add expansion unit later for extra capacity- DS918+ would become handy. It can be expanded to a total of 9 drives giving you more then 90TB storage space.
