TS-653D SMB transfer speeds – Performance

TS-653D Performance

QNAP has performance charts for this unit but they aren’t very clear as to what they tested with (this one lists only a single SSD??) so I was hoping that you had performed some SMB throughput tests with spinning disks and if so would be inclined to share those with me? Looking forward to Prime Day sales and trying to nail down what we want asap.

Qnap tested TS-653D with SSD in RAID5 and the max speeds on SMB via 10GbE was 457 MB/s write 689 read. Without 10GbE card and via 2.5GbE ports 294write 187 read. This is about accurate and will depend on the files you are transferring. Bigger files will send much faster compared to many miniature files. This is based on CPU. Every file transferred needs to be checked by CPU and prepared for sending. Therefore CPUs like Pentium or core i series are faster with small files. TVS-672n would be the best in this range.
